E. C. Long, 85, a former resident of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Chaucer Estates in Wichita, Kansas.
Born August 22, 1924, in Pine Bluff, he was the son of Erby Marvin and Virgie Thrasher Long.
Mr. Long was reared and received his education in Pine Bluff. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving terms during World War II and Korea.
E. C. Long married Leatrice Zangerl on August 7, 1943, in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Long preceded him in death on April 17, 2007.
Following 30 years of service to the Federal Aviation Administration, he retired in 1978. After moving to Harrison Arkansas, in 1984, Mr. Long was appointed manager of the Boone County Regional Airport for several years. He returned to Pine Bluff in 2006. Mr. Long was a member of First Christian Church in Pine Bluff, and First Christian Church in Harrison.
Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; one son, E. C. Long, Jr; one daughter, Linda Luft.
Survivors include one daughter, Julie Bell and her husband, John of Wichita, Kansas; three sons, Kenneth Long and his wife, Peggy of Knoxville, Tennessee, Raymond Long and his wife, Carolyn of Salem, Utah, and Jeffery Long and his wife, Anne of Layton, Utah; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.
There will be no formal visitation but Mr. Long will lie in state at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Graceland Cemetery with Reverend Glen Flemmons officiating. Burial will follow by Ralph Robinson & Son.
