The gates of heaven opened its door on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at midnight for Marcus J. Gray, Jr., age 78, of Pine Bluff to enter and meet his Savior. He passed away quietly at the White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in White Hall as he took is last breath. Our family is grateful for the love and care our father and grandfather was given by their staff for the last year.
Mr. Gray was born June 11, 1931, in Pine Bluff, the only child of Marcus E. and Bertie Mae Joshlin Gray. Mr. Gray attended grammar school in Shreveport LA. He returned to Pine Bluff in the late 1940's where he graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1949. He then attended college at Arkansas Tech University and Louisiana State University. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. Mr. Gray married Mary L. Foreman, his high school sweetheart, in Washington D.C. on March 29,1952. Mrs. Gray preceded him in death February 14, 2003. Mr. and Mrs. Gray were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Gray owned and operated along with his father, Gray's Restaurant, Liquor Store and Motel. He also owned Gray's Downtown Mobile Home Sales and Park from 1965-1969. He co-owned the Hazel's Bottle Shop with his wife for many years. Mr. Gray is survived by two sons, Paul (Vonda) Gray and David (Brenda)Gray, both of Pine Bluff; one daughter, Lynne Gray Crockett of Maumelle; three grandsons, Mark Gray of Pine Bluff, C. J. Gray of Bentonville and Hunter Crockett of Maumelle; two granddaughters, Victoria Crockett of Maumelle and Neely (Marco) Alejandro of Pine Bluff and one great-grandson, Malachi Gray of Pine Bluff. Graveside services will be Thursday, February 11, 2010, by Ralph Robinson & Son in Bellwood Annex Cemetery at 1:30 P M with Reverend Dean Clausing officiating.
